AMPTP Takes Issue with SAG Mailer

LOS ANGELES, September 3:
The Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers (AMPTP) remains at
odds with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), taking issue with a 12-page mailer the
union sent to its members regarding negotiations for a new contract.

The producers alliance
called SAG’s mailer “one sided” and “filled with misrepresentations,” including
that talks are ongoing. The AMPTP insists that no negotiations are taking place
with the actors union, which rejected the AMPTP’s final offer over a dispute
regarding new-media compensation.

The AMPTP says that the
SAG mailer “is designed to give SAG negotiators the answer they want to
hear—and only the answer they want to hear.”

SAG’s AMPTP contract
expired at the end of June. The AMPTP had said that if the deal was accepted by
August 15, the new contract would be retroactive. Neither side has indicated
when talks will resume.
