Al Jazeera International Announces Launch Date

DOHA, October 31: After several delays, Al Jazeera
International is now slated to launch November 15 in Doha, Qatar, coinciding
with the tenth anniversary of its Arabic-language counterpart.

Initially set to launch in May, the rollout was first
delayed till September. Press reports indicate that the channel was experiencing construction and technical
problems at its centers in London, Doha, Kuala Lumpur and Washington D.C. Al
Jazeera International has also struggled to secure U.S. distribution. The
channel has not yet announced its platform partners.

In announcing the November 15 launch date, Wadah Khanfar,
the director general of the Al Jazeera Network, noted, “Al Jazeera
International will build on the pioneering spirit of Al Jazeera and will carry
our media model, based in the South, to the entire world. The launching of the
English channel offers the chance to reach out to a new audience that is used
to hearing the name of "Al Jazeera" without being able to watch it or
to understand its language. The new channel will provide the same
ground-breaking news and impartial and balanced journalism to the
English-speaking world.”
