British Indies MIPCOM Pavilion Generates Business Worth £7 Million

LONDON, October 31: The 33 producers who took part in the
first-ever UK Indies pavilion at MIPCOM will generate business in excess of £7
million over the coming months, the trade body Pact announced today.

The pavilion was made possible following a yearlong
fundraising campaign undertaken by Pact with the support of UK Trade and
Investment (UKTI).

“The UK Indies pavilion was a great success,” said John
McVay, the chief executive of Pact. “Not only did it do its job as an incubator
for small U.K. producers keen to gain a greater understanding of the demands of
producing for the international marketplace, it generated revenue for UK PLC
too. Boosted by our dynamic TV distribution industry, the U.K. really is a key destination
for buyers looking for great content and partnerships. Conversations are
already underway for a UK Indies pavilion at MIPTV and we hope it will become a
regular fixture in the Palais.”

Andrew Cahn, the chief executive of UKTI, added, “These figures
show it is crucial that Government supports and works with industry partners on
events where we can showcase the best of British talent. This pavilion provided
108 square meters of meeting space and facilities for U.K. independent
producers, many of whom attended the market for the first time. Facilities on
the stand included a cutting-edge digital screening system, provided by OTV,
which enabled buyers to search and screen hundreds of hours of content at the
touch of a screen.”
