TMG Preps Cast Details for Moby Dick

MUNICH: The Tele München Group (TMG) has added to the cast of its new screen adaptation of the literary classic Moby Dick, headlined by William Hurt as the one-legged Captain Ahab and Ethan Hawke as first officer Starbuck

Charlie Cox (Casanova, Stardust) plays the third lead role in Moby Dick as sailor Ishmael, functioning as the narrator of the story. Raoul Trujillo (Apocalypto, The Blue Butterfly) plays his friend, the able-bodied harpooner Queequeg. Eddie Marsan (21 Grams, Happy-Go-Lucky) will play second officer Stubb. The cast is rounded out by Gillian Anderson (The Last King of Scotland, The X-Files) as Ahab’s wife Elizabeth, Billy Boyd (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) as Elijah and Donald Sutherland in the role of Father Mapple.

Shooting started in Lunenburg, Canada last week and will be continued in Malta. With a total budget of $25.5 million, Moby Dick is the most expensive production to date in the 40-year history of the TMG.

Rikolt von Gagern, the producer on Moby Dick, commented: “Outstanding talents before and behind the camera giving their very best: that’s what this world famous novel deserves. Creating a thrilling new version that appeals to a modern audience is an adventure itself and a project I always wanted to realise. This is what we’re doing now, not least thanks to Tele München and Dr. Kloiber, who is one of the very few people in this business who can bankroll a budget of this dimension."
