BBC Launches Red Button Interactivity for Kids

LONDON: The BBC has rolled out a new Red Button interactive service for CBeebies, following the launch of a dedicated iPlayer for the preschool channel earlier this year.

With the Red Button functionality, kids can access an  area featuring games and new-look Birthdays and Star of the Week interactive sections, allowing parents to request that their child’s name to be shown on screen. The new design was developed by the BBC’s TV Platforms team.

John Denton, BBC’s managing editor for TV platforms, said: “We’re delivering a simple and engaging new experience for CBeebies viewers and we’ve really improved the kind of games that they can play. By tailoring each set of games to the specific platform being used by the viewer, we’ve been able to significantly improve the user experience and hopefully make the service much more enjoyable”

Michael Carrington, the controller of BBC Children’s, added: “This specially designed new interactive service offers children under six the chance to interact with CBeebies in new and exciting ways and provides a seamless experience between the linear channel and the Red Button service. It also provides more choice to families to be able to access quality entertainment at a time which suits everyone.”
