German, Bulgarian Deals for Distraction

MONTREAL: Distraction has landed deals for the formats DNA and The Next Great Leader in Germany and Bulgaria, respectively.

Bulgaria National Television picked up The Next Great Leader to produce six episodes, with the air date tentatively slated for May. The political reality competition searches for the next aspiring chief from a group of young adults. The Next Great Leader already has deals in place in the U.K. and Germany, and in Canada, the format will launch in its third season on CBC this month.

In Germany, Tresor TV picked up the rights the game-show format DNA, originally from Europroducciones/RTI Mediaset. The German outfit has produced a full series of DNA, which WDR is set to launch on April 15 in a 9 p.m. time slot. To date, DNA has sold to the U.S. and Scandinavia, including Finland. The show challenges contestants to match parent/child couples.

Barbara Vallant, the VP of European sales for Distraction, commented, "Distraction welcomes the production of DNA in Germany. Germany is a key territory and we are confident that other markets will follow the trend."
