De Jong Upped at Discovery Benelux

LONDON: Discovery Networks Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) has promoted Jochem de Jong to senior VP and general manager for Benelux.

De Jong was appointed general manager of Benelux in February 2007, and holds responsibility for Discovery Channel and Animal Planet, as well as four digital networks: Discovery HD, Discovery Science, Discovery World and Discovery Travel & Living. Prior to joining Discovery, de Jong worked at music channel TMF (The Music Factory), part of MTV Networks Benelux.

Arthur Bastings, the executive VP and general manager of Discovery Networks EMEA, said, "The key to Jochem’s success has been putting Discovery’s target audience at the heart of every decision, developing programming that fits the brand with a high degree of local relevance. During his tenure, Jochem has driven the improved performance of our Dutch business and exemplified the coaching leadership style we value so highly. We are fortunate to have him as a member of the team and pleased to announce this well-deserved promotion."

De Jong added, "It has been an incredible first two years at Discovery for me. The Benelux team has driven success by encouraging growth and risk-taking to further localize our business. As a result, audiences for our channels are growing, we have good relationships with our partners and Discovery Networks Benelux is a high-energy place to work."
