Mexican Billionaire Takes Times Stake

MEXICO CITY/NEW YORK,
September 11: Mexican telecommunications tycoon Carlos Slim Helú has picked up
a 6.4-percent interest in The New York Times Company, reports indicate.

Slim, said to be the
wealthiest man in the world with an estimated $60 billion fortune, owns Teléfonos
de México, among other assets. Slim and his family now own a reported 9.1
million shares in the Times, with a value of $127 million.
