Venevision Launches New Formats Unit

MIAMI, June 5: Venevision
International has launched a new formats division, with Juan Andres Rodriguez
as its VP of production and Hector Beltran as its director.

The new unit already
closed a deal for the U.S. Anglo market, and has received offers from a host of
independent producers in Europe and Latin America. It will draw from
Venevision’s catalogue and will also produce and distribute third-party
content.

Luis Villanueva, the
president and CEO of Venevision International, commented, “Years ago, we
ventured into this area through an alliance with notable and successful
companies, but now we’ve decided, in response to our own growth, to incorporate
the infrastructure internally, given the increasing opportunities the market
presents. The formats department will concentrate in two areas: first, it will
exploit and adapt the company’s extensive catalogue, and second, it will seek
to develop both scripted as well as non-scripted formats.”

Beltran, who is
responsible for the commercialization of the new division’s catalogue, added,
“Among our main objectives are the development and expansion of the catalogue
consisting of talk shows, game shows and successful dramas, some of which we
have already presented to our clients. As far as the coverage, we plan to focus
on Latin America, our natural market, and in the short term, develop the
markets of Europe and Asia.”

“Our differentiating
factors are the on-demand model—which can be adapted to the necessities
of each client—the content and the capacity of production,” he added.
