Granada Licenses Saturday Night Takeaway to China

HONG KONG, January 8: Granada International has inked a deal
with China’s Hunan TV for its hit entertainment property Saturday Night
Takeaway,
marking the first time that the
format will be produced for an Asian audience.

Hunan TV is making its own 13-episode version of the
multi-award winning series, titled Super
2008: Friday Night Takeaway
,
which will launch on January 11. The one-hour prime-time show features a number
of successful formatted strands, including Win The Break, where the prizes are products from the
commercial breaks.

Ouyang Changlin, the
general manager and president of Hunan TV, commented: “Saturday Night
Takeaway
has huge potential in
China and we believe that the show will have massive appeal to audiences in
China and across Asia.”

James Ross, the
regional director for Asia at Granada International, added, “Making
local versions of a number of our wide range of entertainment shows is part of
our strategy to develop our presence in the Chinese market and we are very pleased to be working with
Hunan again on this ground-breaking format deal. They will do a great job on
bringing all the high production and entertainment values of the show to
Chinese homes, including all the crazy games, laugh-out-loud moments and
mad-cap antics.”
