L.A. Screenings Buyer Feedback: The BBC

LOS ANGELES/LONDON, June
7: George McGhee, the head of program acquisitions at the BBC, offers World
Screen Newsflash his view of the new shows he screened in Los Angeles.

“It was a decent year for
pilots—not an outstanding one—without any particular
ground-breaking show,” said McGhee. “However, there were a lot of very
watchable, well-made programs, including Dirty Sexy Money, Back To You, The Big Bang
Theory
and The Sarah Connor Chronicles amongst others.

“As we have Heroes we were not looking for a lot but will quietly
pick up a few shows to complement our own productions,” commented McGhee.

He was pleased that there
were fewer serial dramas. “It was good to see that the studios have taken on
board the difficulty broadcasters can have with huge over-arching serialized
dramas, as there is only so much a viewer can stick too. It was not the best
year but far from the worst.”
