On New TLC Series, Kids Document Their Own Lives

SILVER SPRING, January 11:
The Learning Channel’s (TLC) My Life As A Child, launching next month, is being billed as the
cable network’s first “user-generated” series, allowing 20 children to document
their lives on digital video.

The series, featuring kids
aged 7 to 12, will premiere on Monday, February 26 at 7 p.m. (ET/PT), providing
a first-person perspective on the lives of our youngest generation. It was
produced for TLC by BBC Productions.

In February 2006, TLC
asked children to submit videos about their lives. Over 400 responded, and 20
were selected for the series. Each child taped him or herself for approximately
four months. That footage will be featured in a six-episode series.

"First-person
filmmaking by these children gives this series an intimacy unequaled on
television," said David Abraham, the executive VP and general manager of
TLC. "Furthermore, their perspectives on today's most pressing issues,
including race, poverty, bullying and more are deeply insightful and far beyond
their years. We are thankful to them for opening up their lives to us in such a
powerful, raw and real way."

Online at TLC.com, the
kids from My Life as a Child
will discuss their experiences and offer tips and insights to other kids on how
to make their very own videos.
