LOS ANGELES: Multiplatform media company Collective Digital Studio (CDS) is due to turn Maximum Ride, a young-adult fantasy franchise from best-selling author James Patterson, into a YouTube series.

CDS nabbed the exclusive online rights for the books, which have sold 30 million copies. Patterson will exec produce the digital venture, along with Gary Binkow, Leopoldo Gout and Bill Robinson.

“James Patterson is not only one of the world’s most successful authors, he is also a publishing visionary, which is why we approached him about bringing Maximum Ride to life online,” said Binkow, partner and chief content officer at CDS. “Max is a fierce and strong female protagonist who’s desperate to protect her flock. Bringing her to life as an original fantasy web series is something her fans have been asking for, evidenced by the hundreds of fan made videos already online. The beauty of YouTube is that fans won’t have to wait forever as we won’t be bogged down by the typical studio development process.”

Maximum Ride has a massive global fan base and it is very exciting to think about connecting with them online,” Patterson added. “I’m confident that CDS will help introduce the book series to a completely new audience as well. CDS impressed me with their understanding of my readers and their track record for producing premium online digital series.”
