CANNES: The Maverick Chef, produced by Singapore’s Ochre Pictures and set for launch on Li (Life Inspired) in November, has joined the catalogue of Passion Distribution.

Each episode sees molecular gastronomist Alvin Leung heading to an Asian city to sample the country’s cuisine. The show features some of Asia’s top female celebrities as destination hosts. Leung then heads into the kitchen to engage with the dishes’ chefs/cooks to learn the craft and history behind the food. He then attempts to recreate the culinary works with his own interpretations. Finally, Leung re-invents the dish into a three-course meal based on his experience.

Ochre Pictures’ creative director, Jean Yeo, said, “We strongly believe that Passion Distribution is the best possible partner we can have for The Maverick Chef. We are excited about building on this first project towards many more exciting collaborations between Ochre Pictures and Passion Distribution, and between Ochre Pictures and Life Inspired.”

Passion Distribution’s CEO, Sally Miles, commented, “Our buyers will love the combination of food and culture that this series provides for their schedules. We are very excited to be working with Ochre Pictures and feel their production and talent fit well into our catalogue of factual and lifestyle content”.

Li’s head of content, Janice Cheng, said “It has been great working with Ochre Pictures with support from the Media Development Authority of Singapore for The Maverick Chef. We’re excited that Passion Distribution will be distributing the series internationally starting today at MIPCOM. This is just a first of many original productions that we will begin distributing globally.”
