TORONTO: Corus Entertainment and Force Four Entertainment have started production on a new ten-part docu-series for the Canadian OWN channel, Million Dollar Neighbourhood, which follows a community’s journey toward financial freedom.

The show, to air on OWN Canada in early 2012, follows the neighborhood’s transformation over ten weeks, when the community must pull together to increase their collective net worth by $1 million. To reach it’s million-dollar goal, every family must see an average $1,000 increase in their net worth each week. To do so, the families must downsize, earn, barter, share and collaborate with their neighbors.

Million Dollar Neighbourhood is about the power of community, the astonishing things people can accomplish when they come together,” said Vibika Bianchi, the VP of original programming for lifestyle, reality and factual entertainment at Corus Entertainment. It’s a social experiment on an impressive scale. The series promises to keep viewers surprised and amazed while providing valuable money saving insight. It’s a great fit for OWN’s brand of entertaining and enlightening television. We’re thrilled that the community of Aldergrove is so enthusiastic about the challenge. Their passion for achieving this enormous goal is sure to inspire other communities, neighborhoods and households in the process.”

“Every family will hold their neighbors accountable,” added Sean DeVries, the head of factual at Force Four Entertainment. “But more tellingly, our team of Financial Experts will be guiding, gazing and getting tough with anyone not contributing to the common goal. Shelter, transportation, food and every indulgence will be scrutinized.”
