LONDON: Channel 5 has commissioned Tigress Productions, an Endemol company, to produce Red Sea Jaws, a documentary about the recent shark attacks in Sharm el-Sheikh.

Red Sea Jaws pieces together the events that unfolded over five days when last month the popular tourist resort in Egypt saw an unprecedented spate of shark attacks. The documentary will feature eye-witness and survivor accounts, as well as testimonies from rescue divers and the doctors who administered emergency treatment. The doc is available for international buyers from Endemol Worldwide Distribution, which will launch the title at MIPTV.

Executive producer Dick Colthurst said of the project: "Tigress Productions delivers thoughtful human interest programming and I believe this documentary perfectly captures the shocking events. These extraordinary attacks took place in the Red Sea just last month and for some of the survivors this is the first time they will share on camera the trauma they experienced."

Cathy Payne, the CEO of Endemol Worldwide Distribution, commented: “The recent shark attacks in Egypt made headlines around the world. This compelling documentary includes harrowing eye witness accounts that will have viewers gripped. I expect to see strong interest in this program from international buyers at MIPTV in April.”
