Syfy Signs Development Deal with Billy Ray Cyrus

LOS ANGELES: Syfy and NBC’s Peacock Productions have signed a deal with country-music star Billy Ray Cyrus to develop a weekly reality series, UFO: Unbelievably Freakin’ Obvious, which will feature Cyrus and his 21-year-old son investigating unexplained paranormal phenomena.

Each episode will follow the father and son as they head across the U.S. in their quest to uncover conspiracy theories that abound around unexplained activity. Cyrus himself is a skeptic of many of this phenomena, yet his son, Trace, has many conspiracy theories. Together, these amateur sleuths journey to uncover hidden secrets and obtain untold first-hand accounts.

"Our audience craves authentic, compelling and informative storytelling that pushes the boundaries of our normal world," said Mark Stern, the executive VP of original programming at Syfy and co-head of content for Universal Cable Productions. "Allegations of cover-up and conspiracy around unexplained phenomena has inspired heated debate for decades, and it will be interesting to see what truth Billy Ray and Trace may discover."
