LONDON: New broadcasters have signed up for the original Nickelodeon animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, which has also been relicensed in certain territories.

MTV Networks International (MTVNI) inked deals on the series with Georgia’s Teleimedi and Albania’s Top Channel. In the Asia Pacific, Malaysia’s TV3 renewed the show. In Australia, Network Ten picked up episodes 101 to 121 and 201 to 206. This comes just as M. Night Shyamalan’s movie The Last Airbender gets its theatrical release.

These new sales follow on MTVNI’s recent deal with Georgia’s Rustavi2 for more than 600 hours of MTV long-form content. The programs include Punk’d, Pimp My Ride, Cribs, Jersey Shore and Paris Hilton’s My New BFF. Rustavi2 has the rights to localize and package the content as part of a MTV branded environment.

Caroline Beaton, the senior VP of international program sales at MTVNI, commented: “Georgia is an important market with a young audience that is increasingly demanding its own entertainment choices. We believe that partnering with Rustavi2—whose 35 percent market share is 10 percent ahead of its nearest competitor—is a move forward to satisfy this demand for our iconic, groundbreaking content.”
