SILVER SPRING: Secret Life of Elephants, a two-hour exploration into the lives of more than 900 elephants that roam Kenya’s National Samburu Reserve, makes its debut on May 16 at 8 p.m. on Animal Planet.

Shot in HD, Secret Life of Elephants is from the producers of Life and Planet Earth. The research team from Save the Elephants tracked the elephants by placing high-tech radio collars around a few dozen elephants that sends text messages about their whereabouts. The locating devices are used to help piece together their daily challenges and the risks these creatures take to stay alive.

A BBC-Animal Planet co-production, Secret Life of Elephants showcases aspects of an elephants life from birth and mating to violence, aging, injury and death. The special is narrated by Novella Nelson and music is composed by Richard Fiocca, whose most recent credits include Life.
