HBO Central Europe Brings Docs to Cannes

BUDAPEST: Four documentary titles that HBO Central Europe produced in Poland, Hungary and Romania will be offered to international buyers at MIPDoc this weekend and at MIPTV this week.

Docs are a key component of the HBO Central Europe schedule, with 20 originals planned for this year, according to CEO Linda Jensen. The slate includes, from Romania, The World According to Ion B, about a homeless man in Bucharest who comes to international prominence for collages he made from rummaging in trash cans. From Poland comes Lovers, about the relationships between disabled partners. And there are two specials that were shot in Hungary: The Pierre Woodman Story and Miss Plastic Hungary.

Marc Lorber, the senior VP of original programming and production, and executive producer, said, “These documentaries are four excellent examples of the award-winning programming that we have produced recently in Central and Eastern Europe, so we are taking the opportunity to test market reaction at MIP this year.”
