Canadian Producer Preps Haiti Earthquake Doc

TORONTO: Canada’s PTV Productions is teaming with the Red Cross for a documentary about the rescue and recovery efforts in the wake of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, with broadcasters TVO and Canal D already on board.

The three-part Inside Disaster will document the efforts of International Red Cross and Red Crescent disaster relief workers known as FACT (Field Assessment and Coordination Team) as they assess damage and coordinate the supply of water, health care, shelter, and food. A website is already up and running, delivering blog posts from director and co-producer Nadine Pequeneza, photos and video of the relief efforts. The series will air on TVO and Canal D in 2011 and is being distributed by ITV Studios Global Entertainment outside of Canada.

Inside Disaster is produced in association with TVO, ITV Studios Global Entertainment, Canal D, ACCESS, SCN and ichannel, with the financial support of the Canadian International Development Agency and the participation of the Canadian Television Fund.

"We hope the film and website can be a resource for the community as we try to get a sense of what’s happening on the ground," said producer Andrea Nemtin. "The destruction of infrastructure in an already vulnerable country means that the Red Cross and other relief agencies will be playing a vital role in the relief effort in Haiti and the goal of the documentary is to capture both the urgency and complexity of that work."
