39 Projects Chosen for Tenth Animation Production Day

STUTTGART: A total of 39 animation projects from 14 countries have been selected to participate in the tenth-anniversary edition of Animation Production Day (APD), running April 28 and 29.

Animation Production Day offers German and international producers the chance to present their work in half-hour, one-on-one meetings with potential co-producers, investors, broadcasters, distributors and funders. This year, APD received a record 54 project submissions, from which the jury selected 13 films, 23 series and three gaming and special projects. Most of the projects selected are cross-media or transmedia creations.

Thirteen of the 39 projects were submitted by German producers, and five of those come from emerging producers whose participation is funded by APD. The remaining 26 projects hail from Denmark, Spain, Belgium, France, the U.K., Canada, Sweden, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Macedonia and Turkey. The chosen projects represent a total production budget of approximately 150 million euros ($170 million). A host of national and international broadcasters and investors have confirmed their participation in APD this year, including ZDF, KiKA, SWR, WDR, BR, Super RTL, Turner, Disney, CANAL+, France Télévisions, WDR mediagroup, Global Screen, m4e, Nelvana, Technicolor, DHX and Saban Brands.

The APD Conference, set for April 28, will focus on animated documentaries. In addition, APD will host its first Canadian delegation this year, thanks to support from the Trade Commissioner Service of the Embassy of Canada. Also new this year is a collaboration with MIPJunior.

Organized by the FMX 2016 Conference on Animation, Effects, Games and Transmedia and the 23rd International Trickfilm-Festival Stuttgard, Animation Production Day will be held at Stuttgart’s L-Bank and Haus der Wirtschaft.
