FOX Shifts Gotham to Thursdays, Slates The Gifted for Mondays

FOX’s prime-time schedule for the 2017-18 season sees a number of current shows moving time slots and nights, while the new Marvel drama The Gifted lands on Mondays at 9 p.m.

Produced in association with Marvel Television, the family adventure series The Gifted is paired with returning drama Lucifer on Monday nights.

Lethal Weapon is on the move to Tuesdays at 8 p.m., leading into the returning comedies The Mick and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Empire moves into a new slot on Wednesdays at 8 p.m., with Star taking over at 9 p.m.

Gotham also gets a new night, set for Thursdays at 8 p.m. The returning series will provide a lead-in for The Orville, which comes from executive producer and creator Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy) and is directed by Jon Favreau (The Jungle Book, Iron Man).

Fridays see the returning pairing of Hell’s Kitchen and The Exorcist.

Saturdays continue to be dedicated to sports. Sundays will see newcomer Ghosted, starring Craig Robinson (The Office, This Is the End) and Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation, Big Little Lies), airing alongside returning staples The Simpsons, Family Guy and The Last Man on Earth.

For midseason, FOX has announced the new procedural drama 9-1-1, which comes from Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk (American Horror Story, Glee) and stars Angela Bassett (American Horror Story, What’s Love Got to Do with It). Also for midseason, The Resident is a medical drama featuring, among others, Emily VanCamp (Revenge) and Matt Czuchry (The Good Wife).

In the way of comedy, LA to Vegas is planned for a midseason launch. The show comes from executive producers Will Ferrell (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Elf), Adam McKay (The Big Short), Lon Zimmet (Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt) and Steve Levitan (Modern Family).

The network is holding the next chapter of The X-Files for 2018. Additionally, FOX and Warner Horizon Unscripted Television will partner with producer Marc Platt (Grease: Live, La La Land, Wicked) on the live musical event A Christmas Story, inspired by the holiday classic feature of the same name and the Tony Award-nominated Broadway production A Christmas Story: The Musical. Executive producer Marc Platt also will team with FOX on Rent, a live musical production of the Tony Award-, Grammy Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical.

“This past season, we launched five of the top 15 new series—more than any other network—and next season, we’re using our strongest series to launch new shows and grow returning series,” said Dana Walden and Gary Newman, chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group. “We’re strategically pairing shows that have greater compatibility to increase audience flow and create higher duplication on each night. We endeavored to develop a mix of provocative, compelling dramas; broad, funny comedies; and exciting, live events from the best creators in the business—and we’re excited about these new shows.”
