Zodiak Rights Picks Up Doc Series

LONDON: Zodiak Rights has secured the distribution rights for the documentary series On Trial, which offers behind-the-scenes coverage of some of Australia’s major criminal trials.

The series is produced by On Trial Television and premiered on ABC in Australia in June.

“On Trial is an ambitious project which raises the roof on an institution that many of us take for granted but have little understanding or experience of,” said Barnaby Shingleton, the head of entertainment at Zodiak Rights. “The judiciary is a pillar of any modern democracy and this series provides unparalleled access to its inner workings.”

Ian Collie, the producer of On Trial, commented, “At last, justice is done! In contrast to print media, the electronic media has been denied access to film criminal trials for too long now. With On Trial, viewers can play the role of armchair jurors and better understand the strategic legal plays, the complex rules of evidence and the high stakes of both accused and victim or victim’s family, and see justice not only being done but being seen to be done.”
