ZDF Crime Series Nominated for International Emmy

MAINZ, November 14: German
broadcaster ZDF’s production The Killing has received an International Emmy nomination for best drama series.

The winner of the award
for best drama series will be announced at the 35th International Emmy Awards
Gala on November 19.

The series will air on ZDF
in spring 2008. ZDF Enterprises will handle international distribution for the
series. Developed by producer Piv Bernth and writer Sören Sveistrup, the
20-episode series focuses on a 20-day hunt for a murderer. The investigation
rattles the lives of the story’s central characters: a soon-to-retire
detective, a politician in the middle of his election campaign and the victim’s
father. The Killing is a
co-production by DR TV-Drama, Danish Broadcasting Corp., ZDF, ZDF Enterprises,
NRK and SVT, with the support of the Nordvision Fund Denmark.

"The Killing is our second successful co-production with DR TV after
The Eagle, continuing the
excellent cooperation between our two organizations,” said Dr. Alexander
Coridass, the president and CEO of ZDF Enterprises. “ZDF Enterprises will also
handle worldwide distribution for The Killing. We are eager to find out whether The Killing will win the International Emmy for Best Drama
Series—just as The Eagle
did in 2005."
