NAME: Wonder Pets!

ORIGIN: The series is based on an original
concept.

CREATOR: Josh Selig, the president of Little
Airplane Productions, New York

TV SHOW: Wonder Pets! is an animated series consisting of 22
half-hour episodes that targets preschool children. The show focuses on three
very special pets: Linny the Guinea Pig, Ming-Ming the Duckling and Turtle
Tuck, who live together in a classroom at the neighborhood preschool. After the
pupils have gone home, they become the "Wonder Pets"—courageous
super heroes who sing opera and travel the world, using teamwork to help save
young animals in distress.

Each episode
is a ‘mini-opera’ and the animals all sing much of their dialogue—they
belt out arias as they go! Each episode is fully orchestrated and performed by
a live orchestra.

STRATEGY
FOR ROLLOUT:
Wonder
Pets!
is the top-rated
preschool animation show on Nick Jr. in the U.S. Since its debut in March 2006, Wonder
Pets!
has consistently
ranked among the top three preschool shows on all of commercial TV in the U.S.

The show is
set in a classroom so that the young target viewers are immediately in an
environment that they are familiar with. The show draws on the universal
experience for children of this age group: starting school.

The animation
style seen in Wonder Pets! is ‘photo-puppetry animation,' created specifically for the show
by Jennifer Oxley, the creative director at Little Airplane. Real photographs
of the animals are used and moved around, frame by frame, to create the animals’
expressions and movements.

The series is
created by Josh Selig, who has had a long and successful career in children’s
television. He started as a child actor on Sesame Street. After graduating from college, he
contacted the supervising producer of the show, took an audition as a writer,
was hired, and went on to win ten Emmy Awards for his work on the U.S. version
of Sesame Street.

He later
worked at Nick Jr.,
where he served as head writer for Little Bill, and after that created the interstitial
series Linny the Guinea Pig, which became Wonder Pets! Selig founded Little Airplane Productions in 1999.

Wonder
Pets!
was the best
pitch I ever got,” says Brown Johnson, the executive creative director of
Nickelodeon Preschool Television in the U.S. “It consisted of four pictures and
four descriptions from the creator, Josh Selig, who is a really wonderful guy.
I said, ‘OK, I like it,’ so we started out by making three 2-minute shorts and
just loved them. The we said, ‘Let’s try to make a series,’ so we made a
half-hour pilot.” The show went on to be a huge success.

Products will
be introduced in stores in the U.S. during the autumn of 2007 and the first
categories planned are books and DVDs. International roll out is expected one
year later in the autumn of 2008.
