Winners Named at Gemini Broadcast Gala

TORONTO: The 25th annual Gemini Awards concluded with a broadcast gala, hosted by Glee‘s Cory Monteith, where a total of 19 awards were presented, with The Tudors taking home best drama and Less Than Kind named best comedy.

The award for best dramatic mini-series went to The Summit. The cast of 22 Minutes won for best comedy ensemble, while Less Than Kind‘s Benjamin Arthur won for best individual comedy performance.

Also on the performance side, Robert Carlyle of Stargate Universe won for his working in a continuing leading dramatic role, with Caroline Cave of Cra$h & Burn taking the win on the female side. Jared Keeso from Keep Your Head Up Kid: The Don Cherry Story took the win for best performance by an actor in a leading role in a drama, and Sun Li from Iron Road was awarded for her leading performance in a drama.

The Cupcake Girls was named best reality program and best talk series went to Spectacle: Elvis Costello With…. Costello gave a performance during the event, as did Feist, Ron Sexsmith, Kendel Carson and Barry Bales. The awards gala also featured a tribute to Degrassi, recognized as Canada’s favorite TV show of the last 25 years.

Canadians were invited to make their selection from September 15 to November 3 at favetvshow.ca, an interactive website dedicated to this first-time initiative. Coming in second was Flashpoint, followed by Mr. Dressup, Anne of Green Gables and Durham County. Rounding out the top 10 were Holmes on Holmes, Due South, Being Erica, Corner Gas and The Friendly Giant.
