World Screen’s Anna Carugati met with Over Water stars Tom Dewispelaere and Natali Broods, as well as writers Tom Lenaerts and Paul Baeten Gronda and executive producer Kato Maes, to discuss the themes in the series and how it all came together.
The Flemish psychological drama Over Water tells the story of a man with a troubled past who receives a second chance to do right by his family—but old demons and new temptations stand in the way. The 10×45-minute series is debuting next month on VRT’s één, and a second season is already in production.
Produced by Panenka in co-production with VRT/één-Telenet, Over Water is being taken out globally by ZDF Enterprises. It comes from writers Tom Lenaerts, who also serves as showrunner, and Paul Baeten Gronda. Kato Maes is executive producer. Tom Dewispelaere stars in the lead role as John Beckers, who was once the most popular TV celebrity in Flanders before his alcohol addiction and heavy gambling led him down a dark path, causing him to lose almost everything. Natali Broods plays his wife, Marjan.
