Viasat1 Ghana Nabs Champions League Rights

ACCRA/STOCKHOLM: Viasat Broadcasting’s free-to-air channel in Ghana has secured the rights to the UEFA Champions League from now through the end of the 2011/2012 season.

The deal gives Viasat1 exclusive free-to-air TV rights in Ghana for one live match each Wednesday and broadcast highlights from other matches. The channel aired the FC Porto-Arsenal and FC Bayern München-ACF Fiorentina matches today, and will broadcast highlights on Friday. The channel has also secured rights to the Super Cup final and the UEFA Champions League final. Launched more than a year ago, the channel has already fared well with English Premier League action and plans to air a minimum of 33 matches from the 2009/2010 season.

Rune Skogeng, the CEO of Viasat1, commented: “After our success in Ghana with the Premier League rights it is logical to supplement our football portfolio with the UEFA Champions League; the most popular club football tournament in the world.’’
