V-me Signs On for Pangea Day Event

NEW YORK, April 29: On May
10, U.S. Hispanic network V-me will join a lineup of broadcasters that include
BSkyB in the U.K. and STAR TV in Asia in airing Pangea Day, a live four-hour
global event showcasing short films from around the world.

V-me is the only Spanish
broadcaster in the U.S. to present Pangea Day, which will link venues in Cairo,
London, Los Angeles, Kigali, Mumbai and Rio de Janeiro in a global broadcast
featuring films, speakers and music. On May 10 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., V-me will
broadcast Pangea Day to 40 million homes, including nearly half of all U.S.
Hispanic TV homes.

The 24 short films to be
featured have been selected from an international competition that generated
more than 2,500 submissions from more than 100 countries. At least five of the
scheduled films come from Latin American, U.S. Hispanic, Spanish or Portuguese
directors, representing fiction, non-fiction and animation. The program also
includes a number of well-known presenters and musical performers, including
Queen Noor of Jordan, CNN correspondent Christiane Amanpour, Bob Geldof and
Iranian rock artist Hypernova. V-me will present the films with Spanish
subtitles, while providing simultaneous translations of presenters and
speakers.

Other global broadcasters
that have signed on for the event include Globosat in Brazil, OnceTV in Mexico
and Canal+/Planete in France. The global audience for Pangea Day is expected to
reach more than 500 million viewers via traditional broadcast, free-to-air
feeds, and web-based and mobile phone platforms.

Many of the films and performances
seen on Pangea Day will be available on the web alongside open forums for
discussion and ideas for how to take social action. Pangea Day was created by
award-winning documentary filmmaker Jehane Noujaim in collaboration with the
TED conference.
