U.K. Leads Rose d’Or Nominations

LONDON/LUCERNCE: The nominees for the 2010 Rose d’Or competition have been announced, with the U.K. notching up the most nods, 48, followed by Germany in a far second, with 9.

Canada had seven nominations, while the Netherlands scored six, Spain scored five and Australia landed four. The U.S., Switzerland, Norway and Argentina each had three nominations. Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Israel, South Africa and South Korea each had two. With one nomination each are Egypt, Poland, Portugal, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. An international jury panel selected 100 shows from a record 515 entries submitted.

In the drama and mini-series category, nominees include An Englishman in New York, Manson, Misfits, Parenthood and Royal Wedding. Within the category of comedy nominees are Benidorm Bastards, Broken Comedy and The Impressions Show with Culshaw & Stephenson, among others. In the way of sitcoms, The Inbetweeners faces competition from, among others, Pete vs Life, This Is Jinsy, FM and Krod Mandoon.

Nominees for the best children and youth program include Champs 12, In the Night Garden—Episode: "Ninky Nonk or Pinky Ponk" and The Editorial Team. Among the nominees for soap and telenovela are Be Kind to Me, Date Blind, Missing and Forbidden Love.

Game shows up for the Rose d’Or award include Extreme Wedding Album and The Cube, facing off against seven other contenders. There are 13 nominees for reality and factual entertainment, which include Blood, Sweat and Takeaways; Hello Goodbye; Famous, Rich & Homeless; Top Gear; Coach Trip and Pineapple Dance Studios.

There’s also a category for multiplatform, with the Eastenders: E20, facing off against the likes of Red Eagle, The Mi High Game: The Grand Mistress Mystery, Final Punishment and The Virtual Revolution.

The winners will be decided during the 50th Rose d’Or festival, which takes place in Lucerne from September 18 to 22.
