Spain & Portugal Deals for OTF

Off the Fence (OTF) has secured a raft of deals with broadcasters in Spain and Portugal, including for the six-part series Cursed Histories.

Season one of Cursed Histories, which emerged from OTF’s partnership with Canada’s Super Channel and Go Button Media, is headed to Warner Bros. Discovery’s Spanish channel DMAX. Warner Bros. Discovery in Spain also opted for two Big Media productions: Hitler’s Secret Missions and season one of Truthseekers, which was co-produced with RMC Story.

The deals, brokered by Emilia Gil Villegas, OTF’s sales manager for Iberia, Latin America and Hispanic U.S., also see Cursed Histories headed to AMC Networks International Southern Europe for Spain and Portugal, along with two seasons of Truthseekers. The AMC Iberian channels will also air How to Lose a War, produced by Wildbear Entertainment and Cut2Clock.

Also from Wildbear and Cut2Clock, the four-part Wild Battleground has been picked up by RTVE, while Portuguese pubcaster RTP opted for the travel and adventure title Exposure.

OTF also clinched two volume deals in the U.S. Spanish-language sector with HITN and 2042 Media. HITN scored 65 hours, including Meteorica Cine’s The Great Way and Pernel Media’s Butterflies: Superheroes of Nature. OTF sold 195 hours to 2042 Media’s Family Central Explorer TV channel, including A Game of Leopard Thrones, March of the Elephants and Our Big Blue Backyard.

Stefanie Fischer, OTF’s managing director of sales, said: “Documentary has traditionally been a difficult sell into the Latin speaking markets, with their love of sport, celebrity and reality. But these sales indicate that today’s documentaries can rival any genre in terms of pace, narrative and drama. All these documentaries, whether focusing on Hitler’s failed plans for European domination or the butterfly’s conquest of the world, share a common quality: they are great stories told brilliantly by filmmakers at the top of their game.”
