Smithsonian Channel has commissioned the documentaries Jaguarland and Brazil’s Emerald Oasis for its recent launch in Brazil.

The one-hour specials Jaguarland and Brazil’s Emerald Oasis, both shot in 4K, delve into the landscape and wildlife of Brazil’s Pantanal, the largest contiguous wetland in the world. While traveling across the grasslands, woodlands, rivers and lakes of the region, viewers will catch sight of jaguars, tapirs, caiman, capybara and other species in the complementary programs. While Jaguarland follows several of the titular animals as they hunt their prey, Brazil’s Emerald Oasis explores the diverse wildlife at Rebel Lake during the region’s dry season. The docs will premiere this year in Brazil and internationally on Smithsonian Channel.

Jaguarland and Brazil’s Emerald Oasis are co-produced by Brazil’s Canul Azul Films and Britain’s Plimsoll Productions for Smithsonian Networks.

“We are thrilled to highlight the magnificent country of Brazil and the unique Pantanal region with these new commissions,” said David Royle, chief programming officer at Smithsonian Channel. “These are our first original Brazilian commissions and signal our commitment to working with the talented Brazilian production community. We are excited to not only bring the country’s remarkable stories to Smithsonian Channel’s new audience in Brazil but also take these stories to a global audience.”
