Silverlining Rights Secures New Deals for Air Disaster Docs

Silverlining Rights has closed multiple sales deals for two documentaries on air disasters, including Air India Crash: What Went Wrong?, about the recent loss of an Air India flight.

From Emporium Productions, Air India Crash: What Went Wrong? investigates what led to the June crash that killed all but one person on board Air India Flight 171 through interviews with experts, victims’ families and whistleblowers, alongside user-generated content and archive footage. It has now been picked up by HRT in Croatia, RTBF in Belgium and TVP in Poland.

Previously, Silverlining Rights signed co-financing deals for the documentary with Channel 4 in U.K., Discovery in the U.S., SBS in Australia, DR in Denmark, DPG in Belgium, CNN in Portugal, HOT8 in Israel and Movistar in Spain.

Silverlining Rights has also scored deals for Passion Pictures’ three-part series Murder in the Skies: Who Downed MH17?, examining the crash of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17, which killed all 298 people on board. The circumstances of the crash are shrouded in mystery, and as Western governments scrabble for details, civilian Eliot Higgins leads the hunt for answers. The docuseries has been acquired by ABC in Australia, VRT in Belgium and CBC/Radio-Canada in Canada.

“Emporium Productions and Passion Pictures have created high-quality, compelling documentaries that provide audiences with forensic investigations into stories that have made headlines around the world and that tap into demand from viewers to have the inside track on what caused these two disasters,” said Bethan Corney, founder and managing director of Silverlining.
