Shark Week Headlines Discovery Canada’s Summer Slate

Discovery in Canada has unveiled its summer lineup of new and returning series, with the annual programming event Shark Week kicking off on July 23.

The eight-day shark-themed event will take over prime time beginning at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, through to Sunday, July 30. The summer lineup will also feature the new series Cooper’s Treasure, premiering on June 4 at 8 p.m. The six-part documentary series follows treasure hunter Darrell Miklos in his search for a collection of shipwrecks that late NASA astronaut Gordon Cooper spotted from space. Following Cooper’s Treasure, an all-new season of Yukon Men will premiere at 9 p.m. In the upcoming season, the villagers of Tanana, Alaska, face extinction as a wildfire threatens to wipe out the town. On June 13, Discovery will premiere the all-new series Devil’s Canyon at 10 p.m. Hacking the Wild with digital survivalist Andy Quitmeyer will debut on June 21 at 7 p.m.

Investigation Discovery has also slated all-new shows, with the entire summer schedule becoming available for a Canada-wide free preview from July 26 to August 23. All-new series include Murder Among Friends (June 8 at 10 p.m.), Married with Secrets (June 27 at 9 p.m.) and Murder Chose Me (August 15 at 10 p.m.). The true-crime series Fear Thy Neighbor will return August 2 at 10 p.m. and will be available as part of the nationwide preview.

Discovery Velocity, Canada’s only home for factual turbo programming, will feature 18 hours of the world’s greatest classic car auction Barrett-Jackson (June 22 to 24). Discovery Velocity will also showcase the premiere of the all-new season of All Girls Garage (June 15 at 10 p.m.), followed by Car Fix (June 15 at 10:30 p.m.).

In addition, Animal Planet’s summer lineup will offer the new 12-part Canadian series Wild Bear Rescue, debuting on June 13 at 10 p.m. Animal Planet will also air an hour-long documentary called Starts to the Rescue on June 10 at 9 p.m., as well as the all-new series The Guardians, dedicated to animal advocacy, starting June 20 at 9 p.m. Discovery Science, meanwhile, will debut new episodes of Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman from June 9 at 9 p.m., and the brand-new show Incredible Engineering Blunders: Fixed, beginning July 4 at 9 p.m.
