Video Interview: Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age’s Mike Gunton

After delving into the Late Cretaceous period in seasons one and two, Apple TV’s Prehistoric Planet is making its return on November 26, this time making a time jump to the Pleistocene epoch—also known as the Ice Age.

Across five parts narrated by Tom Hiddleston, Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age uses the latest scientific research and cutting-edge visual effects to bring the megafauna of that era to life. The new season follows as all sorts of creatures—from woolly mammoths to saber-toothed tigers to dwarf elephants—fight for survival through extreme climates and harsh environments.

Mike Gunton, executive producer of the series and director of factual for BBC Studios Natural History Unit, tells TV Real Weekly about the scientific research behind the new season, the technology used to bring these animals to life like never before and what Hiddleston’s voice lends to the episodes.
