This fall, Bristol-based Plimsoll Productions is slated to launch a Wales office, which will be led by James Smith, the newly appointed head of Plimsoll Wales.

Plimsoll Wales, which marks the company’s third office, will collaborate with the Bristol (Plimsoll Productions) and Los Angeles (Plimsoll USA) development and production teams. Smith and his team are already working on two shows to be produced from offices in Cardiff, with details to be revealed in the future.

Smith most recently served as executive producer at Plimsoll’s Bristol office, overseeing specials and live events, including the hit series Earth Live for Nat Geo. Earlier in his career, he ran Springwatch for BBC2 and was part of the team that made Amazon with Bruce Parry and Tribe.

Plimsoll CEO Grant Mansfield commented: “Cardiff is an obvious expansion of our commitment to out-of-London production, tapping into the creative talent base that has grown up there, including BAFTA Award winner James Smith. With his long association with Wales as a producer and resident, we have the perfect leader to establish and build a permanent production base in Cardiff.”

“I’m hugely excited to be working in Wales again,” added Smith. “Cardiff has a great deal to offer and I know we can deliver across all the genres I’ve worked in—documentary, natural history and live—as well as factual entertainment and formats, which are part of Plimsoll’s DNA.”
