Bristol Mayor Marvin Rees has joined the board of Plimsoll Productions, a U.K.-based television production company.

In his new role on the board, Rees will offer strategic advice to Plimsoll CEO Grant Mansfield and the current board, with a focus on new commercial opportunities, talent, diversity and sustainability. Rees was elected in 2016, making Bristol the first major European city to elect a mayor of Black African heritage. During his first term in office, he has overseen the building of over 8,000 homes, announced the development of a mass transit system and provided quality work experiences for over 3,500 children.

Rees said: “Plimsoll has a well-deserved reputation for making groundbreaking programs through creative partnerships, distributed through new platforms. I’ve also been very impressed by the company’s commitment to inclusion, opening the doors of opportunity to talent from a wider range of backgrounds. It’s the commitment to excellence, success and values that I believe makes Plimsoll such a stand-out company. I look forward to supporting Plimsoll to bring more investment, jobs and opportunity to Bristol.”

Mansfield added: “Marvin and I worked closely together in Bristol’s successful bid to bring a Channel 4 hub to the City. He’s a dynamic leader who shares our ambitions and values: we both want to see Plimsoll and Bristol continue to grow its national and international reputation as a center of creative excellence, fuelled by a diversity of local talent.”
