Filmmaker Pat McGee and his Pat McGee Pictures have secured exclusive access to Charles Booker’s U.S. Senate primary run in Kentucky for a new documentary.

The untitled doc will explore the late surge Booker rode to nearly pulling off the primary upset against establishment favorite Amy McGrath and ultimately taking on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. He climbed neck-and-neck after being down 58 points to McGrath, who had outraised Booker 40-1 and been endorsed by the Democratic Senatorial Senate Committee. McGee serves as director and executive producer on the project.

McGee’s recent projects include Bernie Blackout for Vice, which documented Bernie Sanders’ run for U.S. president.

McGee said: “Charles Booker became more than just a candidate for Kentucky, he became an inspiring leader on the national level. And, while the official vote did not go his way there’s a powerful movement happening in our country with visionaries like him paving the way. I’m honored to assist in telling his story.”
