Off the Fence Signs Iberian Deals

Off the Fence has closed a slew of deals with broadcasters in Iberia for titles across its factual catalog.

AMC Networks International Southern Europe (AMCNISE) acquired a 40-hour package that includes Pharaohs: Rise and Fall, To Kill a Dictator, season two of Cursed Histories, Female Spies: Courage and Espionage in WWII and much more.

Pharaohs: Rise and Fall is produced by RFP1 Productions for Go Button Media and otf studios, and it introduces viewers to the iconic figures that ruled Ancient Egypt, from the first pharaoh, Narmer, to the legendary Cleopatra VI.

To Kill a Dictator, another Go Button Media and otf studios production, expose the historical plans and conspiracies that have aimed to rid the world of some of the most ruthless dictators in history.

Cursed Histories explores unnverving locations, icons and events that are seemingly cursed.

Female Spies: Courage and Espionage in WWII, from Perpetual Entertainment, remembers the women who overcame sexism to put their lives on the line for their country.

The AMCNISE package also includes Engineering Evolved, looking at the transportation tech that is set to change the world; CIC Production/otf studios’ History’s Ultimate Influencers and Military Masterminds; INA/Histoire TV’s Flying Knights; and Tile Films’ Invasion: The Normans.

Off the Fence also inked a deal with Spanish public broadcaster TV3-3Cat Catalunya, which has picked up Ocean Wonders and Human Playground. Ocean Wonders, from otf studios and EarthxTV, sees marine biologist Tom “The Blowfish” Hird reveal the science behind some of the most intriguing mysteries of the underwater world. Scenery’s Human Playground, meanwhile, follows as Idris Elba sets off on a journey around the world to discover why humans love to play, whether on sand, sea, snow or tarmac.

“The conventional wisdom is that premium factual is difficult to sell into the Spanish-speaking markets where sport and light entertainment are the focus,” said Emilia Gil Villegas. “It is clear that the right documentaries about the right subjects, whether pharaohs, female spies or fascist dictators, cut across all cultures and demographics. That message was reconfirmed at MIPCOM, where our slate of new launches not only generated a real but but, as these deals demonstrate, real business.”
