Netflix Orders Three New Documentaries

Netflix has commissioned three new documentaries, including a feature on Albert Einstein and a series about World War II.

From BBC Studios, Einstein and The Bomb explores Einstein’s relationship with Hitler, Germany, the atomic bomb and its aftermath in Japan. World War II: From the Frontlines, a six-parter from 72 Films, a Fremantle company, brings viewers to the front lines of the war through rare footage shot by the soldiers themselves.

Einstein and The Bomb features a mix of archive material and dramatizations, and everything Einstein says is taken from words he said or wrote in real life. Anthony Philipson is directing, and James Van Der Pool and Andrew Cohen are executive producing.

World War II: From the Frontlines includes footage shot by soldiers that has been restored and colorized. It is narrated by John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Woman King). Rob Coldstream is series director, and David Glover and Mark Raphael are executive producers.

Netflix has also ordered the four-part series Fatherhood with My Father from Jack Whitehall’s Jackpot Productions. As Jack prepares to become a father for the first time, he reunites with his own dad, Michael Whitehall, to travel the world and find out what fatherhood means across the globe. Paul Taylor serves as director, while James Fidler is series producer. The Whitehalls and Richard Ackerman are executive producing.
