Universal Music Group’s content outfit Mercury Studios has secured the rights to Crescendo, a documentary following contenders at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

Directed by Heather Wilk and co-produced by The Cliburn and Red Entertainment, the documentary explores the illustrious competition that takes place every four years. It will be released globally on May 2 for rent or purchase on iTunes, Amazon and Google Play.

Mercury Studios has secured all worldwide media rights, excluding Korea. “Crescendo opens up classical music for a new generation,” said Amy Freshwater, VP of acquisitions. “By combining a ferocious competition with the heart and soul of the performers, the film invites everyone to explore an esteemed genre and its extraordinary talent.”

Wilk added, “We couldn’t ask for a better partner for our film. Mercury Studios’ deep understanding of music makes them the perfect fit, and I’m excited to collaborate and bring this film to audiences.”
