NEW YORK: HISTORY is commemorating the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor with a weekend of original programming dedicated to the events that brought the U.S. into World War II.

Among the original specials slated to air the weekend of December 3 to 4 is the documentary Pearl Harbor: The Truth. Premiering on Sunday, December 4, at 10 p.m., Pearl Harbor: The Truth is based on the book A Matter of Honor: Betrayal, Blame, and a Family’s Quest for Justice, written by Anthony Summers and Robbyn Swan. The documentary explores intelligence and military errors that allowed early warning signs of the impending Japanese attack to go unnoticed, and also examines the conspiracy theory that President Roosevelt knew about the attack ahead of time. It is produced by Arrow Media and Handel Productions.

Another original, Pearl Harbor: 75 Years Later, will premiere on Saturday, December 3, at 9 p.m. Produced by A+E Networks, the program uses accounts from experts, military minds and more to show how the attack on Pearl Harbor continues to shape America today. It explores the biggest stories and lesser-known details related to the infamous attack.

HISTORY will also air a new original short-form series, Pearl Harbor: The Last Word, in prime time throughout the weekend. The series was produced as part of the channel’s HISTORY Saves History initiative and documents the experiences of some of the last living survivors of the attack. HISTORY is donating the complete interviews to The Library of Congress Veterans History Project.

Encore presentations of the programs will air on HISTORY during the day on December 7, which marks the anniversary of the attack. The titles will be available for viewing on demand and via the HISTORY Watch App and History.com on December 5. The HISTORY Vault app will feature a collection of documentaries about Pearl Harbor from the HISTORY library. In addition, the short-form series Pearl Harbor: The Final Word will be available for viewing on the HISTORY app.

Jana Bennett, the president of HISTORY, said: “As our country marks the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, we at HISTORY wanted to offer a fresh perspective of that fateful day. I think our long- and short-form programs accomplish that, bringing newly discovered facts to the forefront with Pearl Harbor: The Truth, and giving voice to a group of ordinary Americans who as young men became participants in history with Pearl Harbor: The Last Word. Our commemoration includes two important corporate initiatives. HISTORY is proud to be the presenting sponsor of this year’s Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Honolulu. We have also extended our #HonoraVet social campaign, which encourages viewers to submit their stories about Pearl Harbor. We will feature the stories on-air, and will make a donation to Team Rubicon for each submission received.”
