SÃO PAULO: Brazil’s Globosat has picked up two jazz documentaries, including one shot entirely in 4K.

The titles, Jazz @ Metropolis and Ella Fitzgerald, are both distributed by Espresso Media International. The 6×52-minute doc Jazz @ Metropolis takes a contemporary look at the influence of jazz music across all forms of popular culture. Shot in 4K, it includes performances from young new artists, historical sections and guest appearances.

Ella Fitzgerald (1×120-minute or 1×150-minute versions), meanwhile, features two shows from the famous American jazz singer known as the ‘First Lady of Song.’

Daniel Chira, who handles content research and acquisitions at Globosat, said: “We’re always on the lookout for programs to enhance our high-quality music offering and jazz in particular brings a certain prestige to our channel.

“Jazz is a genre with enduring appeal in Brazil, so we’re confident Jazz @ Metropolis and Ella Fitzgerald will be positively received by our audiences.”

David Hooper, the managing director of Espresso Media International, commented: “We’re pleased to be taking these documentaries to Latin America’s biggest broadcaster. With the growth of specialist 4K channels worldwide, we believe the Jazz @ Metropolis deal reflects a growing appetite for programs in this format. As such, we encourage producers to create their content in 4K as we see great scope for sales.”
