Cardiff-based indie Wildflame Productions has appointed former BBC Commissioning Editor Nick Shearman to the position of executive producer to lead its growth in factual production across the U.K. and internationally.

At the BBC, Shearman was responsible for series such as The London Markets, Bruce Parry’s Arctic and Nature’s Microworlds. He also spent time at several U.K. indies, including Tiger Aspect, RDF and Keo, and as a freelance executive, he produced the first season of The Supervet for Blast! Films and C4, John Bishop’s Australia for Lola and BBC One, and The Billion-Pound Hotel for Rize and C4.

Paul Islwyn Thomas, Wilflame’s CEO, commented: “Nick is an outstanding executive producer with commissioning experience at the highest level in the BBC and as a senior figure within the U.K. indie sector. Working alongside our talented production team, Nick will be responsible for nurturing emerging talent and lead on the delivery of our major factual titles.”

Shearman added: “I’m delighted to be joining Wildflame Productions in Cardiff. The Flame Group’s international business strategy combined with their commitment to new talent means there is real scope for growth both within Wales and well beyond. And they are lovely people!”
