CJ E&M HK has partnered with two media companies in China for a pair of upcoming original factual IPs—Wok the World: Unearthed Rice Story and Homestay in China.

A co-production with China Intercontinental Communication Center (CICC), Wok the World: Unearthed Rice Story is a three-part series that will tell the stories of China’s Belt and Road initiative, which was launched to promote economic and cultural collaborations among nations along the Belt and Road routes, along which rice travels. Hosts Alvin Leung, a Michelin three-star chef, and MasterChef Canada winner Eric Chong will create special dishes as they take viewers through China, Malaysia, Thailand and Dubai.

Anne Chan, COO of CJ E&M HK, said: “The Belt and Road initiative is a highly relevant topic to the international audience today. We are thrilled to work with our partner CICC to create the show and to bring new stories with fresh and lifestyle angles to the world.”

Homestay in China, which has been commissioned by CICC and Sina Studios, is a six-part series that will feature international artists, designers and celebrities on an exotic homestay journey with local counterparts. Together, they’ll explore, seek inspiration and collaborate on artistic moments.

Both Wok the World: Unearthed Rice Story and Homestay in China will premiere on tvN in Asia, as well as on a number of platforms in China this October. The programs will also be distributed in Africa and the Middle East via OTT and linear platforms.

Further, CJ E&M HK has partnered with Astro to co-produce Get it Beauty on the Road in Malaysia for a Raya special edition. Group M’s Motion Content Group became CJ E&M HK’s new production partner on the show, which will see Korean TV personality Kim Jung-min return as the host. K-beauty expert Kim Ki-soo and TV presenter Nadiyah Shahab are returning as well. The second season of Get it Beauty on the Road is set to air on tvN in Asia and Astro RIA in May.
