The Welsh label Boomerang has been commissioned by 5STAR to produce the two-part documentary Drag Kids, which will air on the channel later this fall.

This candid series explores the journeys of three boys, aged 9, 10 and 12, as they follow their dreams of becoming full-fledged drag queens. Living with the tantrums and tiaras are the parents, who must combine supporting their children’s dreams with navigating this traditionally adult world.

Boomerang is part of the Twofour Group, which is part of ITV Studios. The series will be distributed internationally by Twofour Rights.

Sam Grace, Boomerang’s director of programs and executive producer, said: “It’s been fascinating following the stories of three courageous children pursuing their dreams to perform in drag. The controversial topic will raise awareness as well as inspire conversation about this wonderful art form. We’re so excited to share this piece of work from our Welsh talent base.”

Seb Cardwell, commissioner at Channel 5, added: “5STAR loves to shine a light on different lifestyles and subcultures within the U.K. This doc sensitively follows three families as they navigate the world of drag and its associated hurdles.”
