BBC Studios has scored new presales for two of its upcoming titles, including the landmark natural history series Asia.

From BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit and co-produced with BBC America, ZDF and France Télévisions, Asia marks the first time that the titular continent will be the focus of a major BBC wildlife series. It has newly presold to Nine (Australia), Dragon TV and Phoenix TV (China), DR (Denmark), NHK (Japan), TVNZ (New Zealand), NRK (Norway), SIC (Portugal), Movistar Plus+ (Spain) and RSI (Switzerland).

Filmed over the course of nearly four years, Asia uses the very latest techniques to immerse audiences in the landscape of the vast continent, taking them from the polar wilderness of Siberia to the Gobi Desert, the jungles of Borneo and the coral seas of the Pacific Ocean. It will reveal some of Asia’s most remarkable animals and feature previously unseen behavior.

BBC Studios has also scored presales for the five-part science series Solar System. The show, from BBC Studios Science Unit with NOVA and GBH for BBC and PBS, explores the events unfolding in the planets and moons of the solar system around Earth. From exploring the volcano-covered surface of Venus to flying past eruptions from Jupiter’s tiny moon Io with NASA’s Juno probe, it will take viewers on five journeys through the solar system.

The five-parter has presold to ABC (Australia), HRT (Croatia), AMC Networks International Central and Northern Europe (Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia), France Télévisions (France), ZDFinfo (Germany), Sky Italia (Italy) and Movistar Plus+ (Spain).

It will also be available for viewers to watch on BBC Earth in Albania, Asia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa and Turkey, as well as on BBC Player in Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan; BBC Nordic; and Sony-BBC Earth in India.

“Using cutting-edge technology, both Asia and Solar System allow audiences to experience our planet and beyond like never before,” said Nick Percy, president of global markets at BBC Studios. “Ambitious as always in our storytelling, these titles will inspire viewers and transform the way in which they think about the world. I am delighted that both series are reaching our global audiences.”

These two titles are among those BBC Studios is presenting at MIPCOM. The slate also includes Big Cats 24/7 and Expedition Killer Whale, as well as Renaissance: The Blood and The Beauty, Paddy and Chris: Road Tripping and Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby season six.
