BBC Docs Join Tencent’s Video Platforms

LONDON: BBC Worldwide Asia has inked a new licensing deal with China’s Tencent that includes more than 1,000 hours of documentaries from the BBC.

The agreement comprises such programs as Attenborough: 60 Years in the Wild, How We Got to Now, The Mekong River with Sue Perkins and Rick Stein’s Taste of Shanghai. These titles will become available on Tencent’s online video platforms, including v.qq.com and the Tencent Video app.

Kelvin Yau, the general manager of BBC Worldwide in Greater China, commented: “We have had a long and fruitful partnership with Tencent and are excited to expand our relationship by providing the BBC’s premium documentary content to fans across China.”

Sun Zhong Huai, the corporate VP of Tencent, added: “The BBC’s documentary content is best-in-class and viewers in China are eager for rich, high-quality programs. The addition of the BBC’s content to our catalogue will further enhance our world-class premium content for users.”
