Arrow Pictures Appoints New Development Exec

The newly formed factual label Arrow Pictures has tapped Poppy Dixon for the role of development executive.

Dixon’s remit is to help build Arrow Pictures’ slate of feature documentaries, high-end documentary series and scripted content. Dixon was latterly a producer at Raw, where she was also head of development for feature documentaries and specials.

Her producing credits include the BAFTA-winning feature documentary The Imposter, the doc-scripted-hybrid movie American Animals and the Harvey Weinstein documentary Untouchable, which premiered at Sundance 2019. She has also previously worked on a number of projects with John Smithson, Arrow Pictures’ creative director, at Darlow Smithson, including 9/11; Phone Calls from the Towers.

Smithson said: “We have had a huge amount of interest in our ideas since we launched in December, so we are delighted to have Poppy on board to help fuel our growth. With nearly 15 years’ experience of working in factual film and TV, in both the U.K. and New York, Poppy brings a strong production background, combined with intellectual rigor and storytelling flair. She has originated, developed and produced a wealth of program ideas, with much domestic and international success. She is a great asset to our team.”

Dixon added: “It’s fantastic to join Arrow Pictures at this exciting, formative stage. John Smithson has one of the best creative visions in the industry and I am delighted to be working alongside him to grow the label’s output both in the U.K. and internationally.

“Arrow Pictures already has a rich slate—from exploring the relationship between man and beast; to stories of the 20th century’s most controversial characters; to some of the most compelling crime cases of recent years. I’m looking forward to working closely with the best talent and the world’s leading platforms on these projects.”
